1. Retiring firefighter honored (candgnews.com) — Macomb Township officials recently honored retiring fire Capt. Dave Koss, recognizing his 46 years of service and leadership in the township's fire department. At the same meeting, the board advanced a liquor license for a new Albanian restaurant on Hayes Road and approved extra funding for Broughton Road extension design work, which will affect local traffic and infrastructure near 24 Mile Road.
   

2. Macomb Community College Raises $18M, Exceeds Fundraising Campaign (dbusiness.com) — Macomb Community College, which serves Macomb Township and surrounding communities, has surpassed its Transforming Tomorrows fundraising goal by raising $18 million to support students and programs. The five-year campaign boosts scholarships, workforce training, technology, and arts, including a record $3.2 million estate gift and major growth in the college's endowment and Greatest Need Fund.
   

3. Greater Detroit Gem, Mineral & Fossil Show Returns to Metro Detroit for Its 80th Year (littleguidedetroit.com) — Families in Macomb and nearby communities can head to Macomb Community College's Sports & Expo Center October 9–11 for the 80th Greater Detroit Gem, Mineral & Fossil Show. With free admission for kids 14 and under, hands-on fossil digs, gold panning, expert talks, and dozens of dealers, it's a budget-friendly STEM outing for rock, dinosaur, and science lovers.
   

4. Life in the fast lane: Solgot, Pilsner amongst stars at MAC White jamboree (macombdaily.com) — Macomb L'Anse Creuse North standout Xavier Solgot dominated the Macomb Area Conference White Division cross country jamboree, winning by more than a minute in 15:38.1. The meet in Washington Township also saw strong team showings from Grosse Pointe South and Macomb L'Anse Creuse North, with local runners placing prominently in both boys and girls races.
   

5. Army veteran trucker receives Freightliner from Progressive to help launch business (thetrucker.com) — An Army veteran from Macomb Fahad Al-Kadhim, has been awarded a 2024 Freightliner Cascadia truck through Progressive's Keys to Progress program, helping him launch his own trucking business. His journey from military interpreter to National Guard driver and trainer highlights ongoing service and entrepreneurship that reflects positively on the Macomb community.
