Districtwide, Royal Oak High School had the most American Indian students, while statewide data show overall achievement still lagging pre-pandemic levels and persistent test-score gaps between racial and ethnic groups. 
2. Learn to identify invasive plant species in Royal Oak (candgnews.com) — Royal Oak is asking residents to help spot and properly remove invasive plants like Japanese knotweed and tree of heaven that are spreading through alleys and rights-of-way. The city has launched an online resource with photos, removal guidance, and a reporting form so residents can flag infestations on public property and protect both neighborhood biodiversity and home infrastructure.
3. Firebirds Sign Blues Prospect Nick Bogas (oursportscentral.com) — Royal Oak native Nick Bogas has signed with the OHL's Flint Firebirds after being drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the 2026 NHL Draft. The defenseman, a former Oakland Jr. Grizzlies player committed to Michigan State, is expected to bring physical, high-compete play to Flint's blue line this fall.
4. Attorney arraigned in fatal Fraser hit-and-run motorcycle crash (clickondetroit.com) — An attorney accused in a fatal Fraser hit-and-run was arrested at his Royal Oak home and is known locally for work with the Shakespeare Royal Oak festival and coaching at Royal Oak High School. He now faces charges of leaving the scene and lying to police, while friends of victim Julie Fathbruckner mourn a community-minded woman active in defense and equestrian circles.
5. Homecoming Court student leaders announced for 2026 (msu.edu) — Michigan State University's 2026 Homecoming Court includes Royal Oak native Maddie Hanes among a dozen student leaders from around Michigan and the world. These students will represent MSU at events throughout the year, showcasing their service, leadership, and community involvement while strengthening ties between campus and alumni communities.

- Last week I was visiting my mother who lives in Troy off of Square Lake and Rochester Road.
While I was visiting with her, there was a knock at her door. Behind the door were too young boys, possibly early high school age. They said that… (Nextdoor Royal Oak North East) - Orientation flight of new honeybees to discover their hive location from outside it.
Notice they are facing the hive, noting landmarks nearby so they know where to return after foraging. Very docile. Beautiful sight! (Nextdoor Red Run)
