This year's state education budget won't fix a longtime gap in funding for Michigan's English learners (chalkbeat.org) — Troy families with English learner students should know that local schools are covering most language support costs from their own budgets because Michigan's funding formula excludes many nearly proficient students. The Troy School District says about 90% of its English learner budget now comes from general funds, even after a statewide funding increase, forcing tough choices about staffing and services for multilingual students.
