Hyde-Smith visits MCC forensic training program (meridianstar.com) — Meridian Community College is drawing national and international law enforcement professionals to town through a forensic training partnership with Collinsville-based RSA Forensics. U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith toured the MCC-Riley Workforce Development Center to see how the program uses local classrooms and labs, boosting Meridian's role in specialized training and bringing extended-stay visitors into the community.
   

2. City council approves funds for flood damage evaluation (meridianstar.com) — Meridian residents should know the City Council has approved $75,000 for an engineering study of April's flood damage, aiming to pinpoint blocked ditches and creeks and guide future fixes. Council members also passed several budget amendments, tax exemptions, utility charge-offs, and funding for police SWAT helmets and local nonprofits that shape city services and development.
   

3. Alzheimer's Walk Returning to Meridian (wtok.com) — Residents will soon have a chance to support Alzheimer's awareness and research when the East Mississippi Walk to End Alzheimer's returns to Meridian on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 8 a.m. on the Meridian City Hall lawn. Organizers and the Meridian Rotary Club are helping spread the word so local families affected by dementia can connect, honor loved ones, and raise funds for care and support.
   

4. The Mississippi Restaurants Locals Secretly Love And Would Rather Not Share With Everyone (takingthekids.com) — Meridian diners get a special shoutout in this statewide roundup, thanks to Mom and Pops on North Frontage Road, praised for its hug-on-a-plate Southern comfort food and friendly service. The article details hours, style of cooking, and why locals quietly plan their week around its daily specials, while also spotlighting other beloved hidden restaurants across Mississippi.
   

5. Special field trip opportunities at the MAX (wtok.com) — Schools in and around Meridian can now bring students to The MAX for free, thanks to funding from the Mississippi Power Foundation and travel reimbursement from Yates Construction for those outside Lauderdale County. The program offers guided tours and curriculum-linked, hands-on arts and history experiences that help bring Mississippi's creative legacy to life for local students.
