• MSU-Meridian to seat inaugural Doctor of Physical Therapy cohort in 2029 (msstate.edu) — MSU-Meridian is launching a Doctor of Physical Therapy program that will bring 50 doctoral students to the Meridian campus starting in fall 2029, pending accreditation. Funded by The Riley Foundation, the accelerated hybrid program aims to ease Mississippi's physical therapist shortage, add up to 10 faculty jobs, and give working adults and military personnel a flexible path into a high-demand health career.

• Mississippi midterms: Who's running in the 3rd District? (mississippitoday.org) — A Meridian real estate investor, Libertarian Erik Kiehle, is joining Democrat Michael Chiaradio in challenging Republican Rep. Michael Guest for Mississippi's 3rd District seat, giving local voters more choices this fall. Kiehle is running on an "America First" platform with hardline immigration and foreign policy stances, while Chiaradio pitches expanded safety-net programs and economic relief as he tries to overcome Guest's big fundraising edge.

• Londyn Kate Teague competes for Miss Elementary Alabama (valleytimes-news.com) — Meridian will host the Miss Elementary Alabama pageant on October 18, bringing young contestants and their families into town for the statewide competition. Second-grader Londyn Kate Teague will vie for the Miss East Elementary Alabama title, showcasing her interview skills, pageant walk, and fun-fashion outfit after months of coaching and practice that have boosted her confidence and social skills.
