• Newton Chamber Celebrates 73 Years of Service at Banquet (newtoncountyappeal.com) — Newton residents just marked 73 years of their Chamber of Commerce with a patriotic banquet at the Historic Newton Depot, complete with local barbecue and live music. Lt. Col. Jonathan Skinner highlighted Newton County’s long military ties, and community awards honored Charlie Walker, Ashley Duke, and 2026 Man and Woman of the Year Chris Spence and Kay Killens.

• Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office has first successful search with new K-9 Deputy (wtok.com) — Newton County deputies recently teamed up with Lauderdale County’s new K-9, Mark, to successfully track down a person who fled from law enforcement, marking the dog’s first big win. The search, which also involved Mississippi Highway Patrol, is encouraging Lauderdale County’s sheriff to pursue adding more canines that could assist nearby communities and schools, including in Newton County.
