• Newton County: January Unemployment Rises Slightly in County (newtoncountyappeal.com) — Newton County’s January unemployment rate ticked up to 3.7%, with about 294 residents counted as jobless and a slightly smaller overall labor force. While that’s a modest increase from December, the county still ranks among the lower unemployment areas in Mississippi, roughly matching the statewide rate and remaining better than many other counties.
