• How OPD Is tackling student drinking (oxfordeagle.com) — Oxford police and Ole Miss wellness educators are stepping up efforts to curb underage and excessive student drinking, especially during late-night hours on the Square. With 500–600 DUIs a year, OPD is emphasizing prevention and training, while the William Magee Center targets freshmen with early alcohol education to keep the broader Oxford community safer.
   

• New endowment supports first responders (oxfordeagle.com) — An Oxford resident has created a $500,000 scholarship endowment at Ole Miss to support Mississippi first responders and their children with college costs. The gift honors Dr. Frank and Lucy Banks, who retired to Oxford and were deeply involved in the university and local community. Residents can still contribute to the fund through the University of Mississippi Foundation in town.
   

• Ole Miss Baseball pitching takes a leap in 2026 (thedmonline.com) — If you follow Ole Miss baseball in Oxford, the big story is how dramatically the Rebels’ pitching staff has improved this season, cutting its ERA by nearly a full run. Behind transfers, returning arms taking big steps forward, and pitching coach Joel Mangrum’s emphasis on new secondary pitches, the staff has become one of the SEC’s most effective through the first 38 games.
