📰 News we're reading
• Tupelo Police Chief says License Plate Readers help enhance public safety (wcbi.com) — Tupelo’s police chief is defending the city’s network of automated license plate readers, saying they’ve helped recover stolen vehicles, find missing people, and even solve a kidnapping case. He stresses the cameras don’t generate traffic tickets, data access is tightly controlled and audited, and the system is used strictly for legitimate law enforcement purposes around Tupelo.

• Republicans hold 4-to-1 majority on redistricting committee now holding statewide hearings (msindy.org) — Mississippi lawmakers are launching a series of redistricting hearings, including an Aug. 18 stop at Itawamba Community College in Tupelo where residents can weigh in on new voting maps. The Republican-dominated committee will redraw legislative and Supreme Court districts under fresh federal court scrutiny, and what people say at these meetings could shape how Tupelo and surrounding communities are represented.
