📰 News we're reading

• Former Truman Elementary School property goes for $1.4 million (kshb.com) — Hickman Mills School District has sold the former Truman Elementary School property at 9601 James A. Reed Road in Kansas City to the Islamic Society of Greater Kansas City for $1.4 million. District leaders say turning the closed school into an education-focused community partner will help stabilize finances after deep cuts, while keeping the site active for neighborhood families.

• 8th Circuit to hear Missouri redistricting case following US Supreme Court ruling (kdhnews.com) — Kansas City voters in the 5th Congressional District face a high-stakes redistricting fight that now appears likely to leave the 2022 map in place for November's midterms. After Missouri's Supreme Court and now the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a Trump-backed gerrymander, a federal appeals hearing next week will probe whether changing maps after the primary violates voters' rights, but legal experts say time is running out for any switch.
