Train horns return to St. Louis, prompting resident complaints (newsnationnow.com) — Train horns are sounding again across St. Louis after the city lost its federal 'quiet zone' designation, leaving many residents struggling with nighttime noise at dozens of crossings. City officials say they only recently learned the FRA revoked the status over long-missing safety documentation and are now rushing signage and crossing upgrades. A resident-led petition is pressing leaders for short-term relief, clear timelines, and weekly progress updates.
   

2. Man accused of holding business owner at knife point in attempted robbery in South City (kmov.com) — A South City business owner in St. Louis fought off an alleged attempted robbery after a man reportedly held a knife to her throat and demanded her fanny pack on the 5600 block of Gravois. Police say the suspect, 51-year-old Kevin Poirrier, is charged in that incident and in a separate ladder theft on the 4600 block of Delor, both captured on surveillance video.
   

3. SLSO opens new season with big, brash, brassy performance at Powell Hall (stlamerican.com) — St. Louis Symphony Orchestra has launched its new season at Powell Hall with a high-energy program featuring Berlioz, Liszt, a St. Louis premiere by Andrea Tarrodi, and Respighi's "Pines of Rome." The performance highlighted star turns from principal players, guest pianist Yefim Bronfman, and the orchestra's powerful brass and percussion, leaving local concertgoers with a sense that the SLSO is back in full force.
   

4. Photos: Central Catholic pilgrimage to Sheen beatification in St. Louis (pantagraph.com) — St. Louis hosted thousands of worshippers at The Dome at America's Center for the beatification Mass of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, drawing visiting students and families from Bloomington's Central Catholic High School. The group prayed together on campus before boarding buses, then joined the large crowd inside the Dome for the historic ceremony and Mass.
