House divided over Miller Creek feral horses as county approves resolution (kpax.com) — Missoula County commissioners have approved a resolution to manage the Miller Creek feral horse herd, aiming to balance residents' safety concerns with affection for the animals. The plan adds fertility control, potential funding for injured horses, and new road signage as families report more encounters in growing neighborhoods and parks. 
2. Playing catch-up: Missoula's push to fix 100-year-old pipes means higher water bills (kpax.com) — Missoula's long-delayed work to replace century-old water and sewer infrastructure will mean higher utility bills for city residents in coming years. City staff are updating 20-year water and wastewater plans, and once adopted, will calculate how much rates must rise to fund pipe and treatment plant upgrades.
3. Griz look to fix mistakes ahead of matchup with Drake (nbcmontana.com) — Montana Grizzlies fans in Missoula can look ahead to Saturday's home game against Drake as new head coach Bobby Kennedy works to clean up mistakes from last weekend's narrow win. The Griz will kick off at 1 p.m. at Washington-Grizzly Stadium, with another home matchup against Utah Tech coming to Missoula on Sept. 12.
4. Missoula Co. hosts wildfire preparedness event (nbcmontana.com) — Missoula County just hosted a free wildfire-preparedness workshop to help local homeowners reduce fire risk around their properties, from changing landscaping to cleaning gutters. County and federal experts also urged residents to schedule free wildfire risk assessments available through Missoula County, the state DNRC, and the U.S. Forest Service.
5. Douglas Allen Ebel (bitterrootstar.com) — Friends and neighbors are remembering Florence resident Douglas Allen Ebel, a longtime concrete contractor who worked on many projects in Missoula and the Bitterroot Valley. The Army veteran, sports fan, and family man died August 17 and is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings in Missoula and Stevensville, and extended family.
