Curbing Hunger launches community "Can Challenge" to fight food insecurity
A replica of the iconic Basking Ridge landmark Washington House will be built using canned goods

Curbing Hunger is calling on the community to help combat food insecurity across Somerset County and beyond with an ambitious and engaging new initiative: the Can Challenge.
This year’s special event will feature the construction of a large-scale replica of the iconic Washington House, built using approximately 12,000 cans of food. The effort highlights the urgent need in the region, where more than 28,000 individuals currently face food insecurity.
All food collected through the Can Challenge will be distributed to local and neighboring food banks and pantries, helping stock shelves and support families in need.

Community members are invited to participate by making a financial contribution or volunteering their time. Donations can be made online at: https://secure.qgiv.com/for/curbinghunger. All contributions will directly support the purchase of cans used in the project, with a fundraising goal of $15,000.
If you or your group is interested in helping to build the structure, please email curbinghunger@gmail.com.

The Can Challenge is made possible through the generous collaboration of SEK Architecture, led by Steve Kowalski, and Scandic Builders, whose engineering expertise will help bring the design to life. The structure will be assembled by teams of local students, church groups, and community volunteers.
The completed installation will be on display from June 14 through June 21 inside the Washington House. Visitors are encouraged to stop by, enjoy the exhibit, and take part in the spirit of giving.
