Middle School Disrupted By Power Outage In Brick

The outage happened as students were arriving at the school, officials said.

BRICK, NJ — Students at Lake Riviera Middle School spent the beginning of their day at Brick Township High School, after a power outage left their school in the dark on Wednesday.

The outage south of Beaverson Boulevard affected not only the school but about 1,200 homes and businesses in the area, according to Jersey Central Power & Light.

Chris Hoenig, a spokesman for JCP&L, said the outage was caused by a downed wire.

"We’ve been very deliberate in our restoration steps with this one for safety, especially given the proximity of the school," Hoenig said. Crews were still working on the issue as of 10:15 a.m.

Witnesses told Patch it happened just as school buses were arriving at the middle school for the start of the day.

The Brick Township School District posted a message on its website saying, "Due to a JCP&L power outage during arrival, students have been transported to BTHS for the start of the school day. Students will be transported back to LRMS once power has been restored."

Power was restored to Lake Riviera Middle School around 9:30 a.m.
