Former State Sen. Sandra Cunningham Of Jersey City Dies

The former state senator and First Lady of Jersey City has died.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Former Jersey City State Sen. Sandra Bolden Cunningham has passed away at 76, officials said Wednesday.

Cunningham had served from 2007 to 2024.

She was married to Jersey City Mayor Glenn Cunningham until his passing in 2004.

On Wednesday, former Gov. James McGreevey praised legislation she had passed. "My family cherished Sandy," he said. "New Jersey is better because of her. May she rest in God's peace."

Assemblyman Jerry Walker said, "Sandra, I will continue your commitment to making Liberty State Park a destination where all families can come, enjoy it and prosper for generations. I know how much you cared about its future, and I know how much you wanted the families of our community to be part of that future. I will carry that work forward."
