Eatontown Mayor Anthony Talerico, a Democrat, asked voters to re-elect him to a third term as the town's mayor. He was challenged by Councilwoman Maria Grazia Escalante, Republican, in her first attempt to become Eatontown's mayor.

Talerico ran on his record as the town's current mayor, where he touted his availability to residents to address their problems, and his negotiations with Netflix that secured a $47 million payment-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILOT) to the town.

Escalante was a vocal challenger this year. She challenged Talerico on what she said was his lack of transparency in negotiating with Netflix, and she is also critical of his proposal to build a new Eatontown town hall.
