"Alex Scuorzo embodies the Heart of a Giant through his leadership, courage, and commitment to his community. A senior captain and member of his team’s Leadership Council since freshman year, Alex leads by example, bringing energy to his teammates and stepping up whenever his team needs him. His commitment to others extends well beyond football. Alex is president and lead ski instructor for MKA’s Winter4Kids chapter, volunteers with the Parents of Autistic Children Surf Camp, and participates in Special Angels Rec football events. He also coaches younger athletes and created a website connecting students with community service opportunities. Alex has faced adversity both on and off the field. During his season opener, he suffered a serious ear injury but returned to the sideline after being treated at halftime. He has also supported his family while his father undergoes treatment for cancer. Whether mentoring younger athletes, serving his community, or standing beside his teammates through difficult moments, Alex consistently chooses to show up for others. His courage, selflessness, and leadership make him a true Heart of a Giant."

"Skiing, surfing, football — in each case, I’ve tried to use the sport I’m passionate about as a way to include kids who might otherwise be left out, whether because of cost, disability, or opportunity," Scuorzo wrote as part of his submission to the contest.

"It’s not something I do once in a while; it’s a commitment I’ve kept up across seasons and communities, and it’s taught me as much about character and teamwork as any game has," he said.
