In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, members of the Omicron Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated donated hundreds of bags of bed linens, new clothing, and canned goods, then prepared and served a hot meal for residents of The Salvation Army Montclair Citadel. The annual service initiative is an MLK Day tradition for the 100-member Montclair-based chapter, which marks its 42nd anniversary this year.

The program featured Mary Bentley LaMar, the 34th North Atlantic Regional Director of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and a member of Omicron Xi Omega Chapter, who directed residents and guests in singing traditional freedom songs associated with the civil rights movement led by Dr. King. Chapter members also shared fun facts about the historical movement and engaged participants in games with prizes.
