“On Feb. 8, the Montclair Fire Department was dispatched to a Clark Street residence in Glen Ridge on a report of smoke coming from a home by a passerby. Upon arrival, MFD members noted that there was heavy smoke emanating from the third floor. Firefighters searched the home, and realized the smoke was coming from above them on the third floor. Firefighters quickly pulled the ceiling to expose and extinguish the fire. Damage to the home was limited because of the quick action of the MFD. With a labor-intensive fire and extensive overhaul required, two operating truck crews allowed for the sustained staffing and coordinated work with the engine companies that is essential to produce a successful outcome.”

Firefighters battled the fire in spite of single-digit temperatures, authorities said.

The occupants of the home were able to self-evacuate, and there were no reported injuries.
