Tires Swiped Off Parked Car In Montclair, Bystander Spots Thief: Police

Lug nuts for the tires were found lying on the ground beside the car, police said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Someone swiped two tires off a parked car in Montclair early Monday morning – and a bystander spotted the thief, authorities say.

The bystander told police that he heard a car alarm activate while he was on the fourth floor of his apartment building on South Fullerton Avenue around 2:45 a.m.

When he went to see what was happening, the bystander saw a man in a winter jacket and baseball cap hauling a tire into the back seat of an older model, tan Lexus sedan. The man then took a trolley jack down from another vehicle and drove out of the parking lot, police said.
