Officials Dispel Rumors Surrounding Beloved Morristown Hot Dog Stand

MORRISTOWN, NJ — After weeks of circulating rumors, Morristown officials have spoken out with regard to a beloved hot dog stand.

Sophie’s Hot Dogs has been operating on the Morristown Green for more than 40 years. Run by 80-year-old Sophie Hsieh, the stand has become a staple in the Morristown community.

But after Hsieh reportedly received a letter from the town stating that the New Jersey Department of Health requires mobile food vendors to have a “commissary/serving area,” rumors of her shutting down circulated.

Following concerns on social media, the Town of Morristown decided to “set the record straight.”

“Sophie’s Hot Dogs remains open and operating on the Green, and the Town is actively working with Sophie to help navigate State health requirements to ensure she can continue serving the community for as long as she wants to,” the town said on Thursday.

Recently, the community rallied to deliver Hsieh a brand new hot dog cart after hers was damaged beyond repair.

In a matter of days, the community raised more than $17,000 for Hsieh’s new cart.

“Sophie has spent years serving up great food, creating memories, and being a familiar face in our community. Now it’s our turn to support her,” the fundraiser read.
