📰 News we're reading

• Council has 'no information' about ICE incident (starnewsgroup.com) — A recent ICE operation in Point Pleasant Beach led to a pedestrian being struck by a car on Route 35 while fleeing agents, and borough officials say they were never notified in advance. Council members from Point Pleasant Beach and neighboring Point Pleasant Borough are questioning the lack of information and stressing legal limits on federal actions. Residents are invited to a Sept. 30 town hall to discuss concerns further.

• Lanes to Close For Three Months Along Bridge Avenue's Lovelandtown Bridge (shorebeat.com) — Drivers in Point Pleasant should prepare for months of lane closures on the Lovelandtown Bridge over the Point Pleasant Canal starting Sept. 15, 2026, as the state makes priority repairs. Right lanes will close first, then left lanes, though one sidewalk and local access will stay open. Officials say the work should ease heat-related expansion problems and keep the 1971 bridge operating safely.

• Point Pleasant Man Charged in Asbury Park Swastika Graffiti Incidents (tapinto.net) — A 29-year-old Point Pleasant man has been charged after an investigation into a series of swastika and other graffiti incidents at several Asbury Park locations earlier this month. Police say the vandalism, including at the Mercy Center and a Main Street 7-Eleven, is being treated as bias-related. Authorities have not released details on what evidence led to the arrest.
