Family Left Homeless, Pets Hospitalized After Bergen County House Fire
A woman and 2-year-old escaped a fire in Bergen County, but their pets were hospitalized.
BERGEN COUNTY — A woman and 2-year-old boy escaped a fire in Rochelle Park on Tuesday afternoon, and three of their pets were hospitalized, officials said.
Police Captain James DePreta said that emergency workers received a call around 2:15 p.m. for a kitchen fire on Howard Avenue.
A dog and two cats were taken to Oradell Animal Hospital, DePreta said.

DePreta said the house is uninhabitable.
The Red Cross said that they are assisting the family of five with temporary shelter and food.

"Our Disaster Action Team responded to a home fire on Howard Ave in Rochelle Park, helping a family of five with emergency assistance for temporary lodging, food, clothing, and other immediate needs. Red Cross Disaster Health and Disaster Mental Health Services are also available."
Fire Departments from Rochelle Park, Maywood, Lodi, and Hackensack extinguished the fire, DePreta said.
He did not have information on the condition of the pets.
