Fight Over Pokémon Cards Breaks Out At South Jersey Store, Officials Say

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — A new Pokémon card release brought a police response to one South Jersey store on Saturday.

At around 7 p.m., Washington Township Police responded to the "ACME" supermarket for a report of an argument with multiple people surrounding a vending machine in the store's lobby.

Witnesses said three groups of people were waiting for the trading card game's (TCG) new release at the time.

The machine disperses products during random intervals to try and prevent one person from buying everything.

An argument broke out over whose turn it was to use the machine as the anticipated release time grew near. Voices were raised, and an adult was yelling at minors, Washington Township Police said.

Officers were able to de-escalate the situation quickly and remained at the store as the products were released.

No injuries, arrests, or charges were reported, authorities added.
