DWI, Fraud, Bike Theft Reported In Westfield

Westfield Police released its blotter for July 12 to July 18:

WESTFIELD, NJ — A DWI arrest, warrant arrest, theft, and more were reported recently in Westfield.

On July 13 at 8 a.m.: A victim reports that she exited an Uber ride service vehicle in the area of the 300 block of E. South Avenue and left behind a white Lululemon wristlet. The contents were worth around $2,000. Uber representatives did not have the items in their possession when contacted.

On July 15 at 1 p.m.: A resident reported the theft of their bicycle between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. from the side yard of a home in the 700 block of Fairacres Avenue. The bicycle is described as a black colored Trek Marlin 5 with "TREK" displayed in white colored lettering on the downtube portion of the frame. The bicycle was also equipped with a grey colored rubber cellular telephone mount attached to the left handlebar, as well as a water bottle mount which was affixed to the top of the downtube. It is valued at $500.

On July 16 at 11:56 p.m.: Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop on West South Avenue near West Broad Street. During the stop, Patrick Brown, 31, of Scotch Plains, was placed under arrest for a $500 traffic warrant issued from the Fanwood Municipal Court. He was released on scene upon the issuance of a ROR.

On July 17 at 8:45 p.m.: Officers arrested Joseph R. Natale Jr., 46, of New Providence, for DWI in the area of Brightwood Avenue and Brown Avenue pursuant to a motor vehicle stop investigation. He was eventually taken to Westfield Police Headquarters, processed, and released to a sober adult upon the issuance of summonses.

On July 18 at 6:08 p.m.: A 700 block of Woodland Avenue resident reported being the victim of a suspected identity theft and fraud scheme after receiving multiple suspicious phone calls and text messages regarding unauthorized changes to his cellular account and the opening of financial accounts in his name. The victim reported no monetary loss at the time of the report.

On July 18 at 7 p.m.: Officers took a report from a resident in the 200 block of Central Avenue who was the victim of a suspected identity theft and fraud scheme after an unknown person allegedly used her personal information to open new cellular phone accounts and purchase electronic devices at a Westfield business. The victim reported no immediate monetary loss.
