• Demolition Begins At Essex House Site In West Orange, Apartment Building Proposed (patch.com) — Demolition is underway at the former Essex House restaurant site on Northfield Avenue in West Orange, where developers are proposing a four-story mixed-use building with 95 apartments, including 19 affordable units. Neighbors near St. Cloud Elementary and South Mountain Recreation Complex may see increased activity as the project advances, with a key Planning Board hearing now rescheduled for Nov. 4.
   

• How To Dispose Of Leaves This Fall In West Orange: 2026 Update (patch.com) — West Orange has updated its 2026 fall leaf collection plan, switching to weekly zone-by-zone updates instead of a season-long schedule. Residents should check the township's Leaf Collection Map, follow the Oct. 19–Dec. 6 street placement window, and keep piles away from storm drains, while DPW offers both loose-leaf pickup and weekly bagged collections through Dec. 31.
   

• UPnRIDE, Kessler Foundation to Partner on Standing Study (mobilitymgmt.com) — A new research partnership between UPnRIDE Robotics and West Orange-based Kessler Foundation and Kessler Institute will study how power wheelchairs that allow users to stand affect daily life. The project, centered at the West Orange facilities with sites statewide, aims to improve mobility, independence, and quality of life for people with disabilities while raising awareness of this advanced standing wheelchair technology.
