The successful rescue, one of nine calls that day, highlights how quickly local crews can respond when neighbors need help.

• Boat Catches Fire, Drifts Toward Bulkhead In Bay Shore: FD (patch.com) — Firefighters in Bay Shore quickly put out a fire on an unoccupied boat that drifted close to the bulkhead near Bay Shore Marina and South Penataquit Avenue. With help from Suffolk police and other agencies, they secured the vessel, extinguished the engine fire, and cleared the scene in under an hour.
