Carmel School District to sell land in Kent for $3.7 million (midhudsonnews.com) — Carmel School District has agreed to sell its long-unused Route 52 property in Kent for $3.47 million, closing the book on a costly, abandoned bus depot plan. Officials say the sale protects taxpayers, returns the land to Kent’s tax rolls, and lets Carmel refocus resources on current school needs and facilities.

Carmel reviews ambitious master plan for McDonough Park (halstonmedia.com) — Carmel officials are weighing a multi-million-dollar master plan to overhaul Jimmy McDonough Memorial Park, with new baseball and softball complexes, better parking, drainage, and a rebuilt skate park. The Town Board is seeking updated cost estimates and may eventually ask voters to approve funding, which could shape local recreation for years.

3. Taconic State Parkway crash in Kent ends stolen car pursuit (midhudsonnews.com) — Carmel Police assisted Putnam County deputies and Kent Police in stopping a reportedly stolen car on the Taconic State Parkway after a pursuit from Westchester. Officers used a tire deflation device near Pudding Street in western Kent, where the suspect crashed, fled on foot, and was quickly arrested on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.

4. Tenants and dogs escape from animal shelter fire in Brewster (midhudsonnews.com) — Carmel firefighters and local mutual-aid crews helped quickly contain a ceiling-fan fire at the SNARR Northeast animal shelter on Sodom Road in Brewster, preventing injuries to residents, responders, or dogs. Lake Carmel and Carmel volunteer ambulance corps also assisted, while the Red Cross is helping displaced tenants with temporary housing and services.
