• Wrong-Way Deer Park Crash Injured Elderly Couple, 3 Others: DA (patch.com) — A Dix Hills man has pleaded guilty in connection with a 2025 wrong-way crash on Deer Park Avenue that injured five people, including an elderly couple who needed surgery. Prosecutors say he was impaired by marijuana when he struck multiple vehicles while trying to flee an earlier collision. He's due back in court in October and faces a potential prison sentence.
   

• $2K Reward Offered After Turtle Found Tethered Underwater In Deer Park Lake (patch.com) — A turtle was found zip-tied inside a submerged cage at Geiger Park Lake in Deer Park, and Suffolk County SPCA says it was likely intentionally left to die. Town of Babylon park rangers rescued the non-native yellow-bellied slider just in time, and authorities are now offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Anyone who saw suspicious activity near the lake is urged to call the SPCA.
