• Man Struck On LIE After Getting Out Of Car; Driver Charged: Police (patch.com) — A serious crash on the Long Island Expressway left a pedestrian badly hurt and taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, with two men now facing drug-related charges. Police say the injured man exited his car after hitting the median and was struck by another vehicle, whose occupants were later arrested and scheduled for arraignment in Central Islip.
   

• Mosquito Sample taken From Fire Island Pines Tests Positive For West Nile Virus (patch.com) — Mosquitoes collected in Islip and nearby communities have tested positive for West Nile virus, prompting Suffolk health officials to urge extra caution against bites. Residents are advised to report dead birds, call vector control about mosquito problems, and take special care if they're over 50 or have weakened immune systems.
   

• 2 More Rabid Raccoons Found On LI; 1 Person Had Contact: Officials (patch.com) — Two more rabid raccoons have been confirmed in Suffolk County, including one from a Bay Shore property that was handled by the Islip Animal Shelter, and another that a Babylon resident touched before seeking medical care. Health officials say no other people or pets were exposed, but they're urging Islip-area residents to avoid contact with wild animals and report any raccoon acting strangely to authorities.
