Locals worry about traffic, water use, forest loss, and tax breaks, while Amazon touts jobs and tax revenue as it seeks incentives and moves through a lengthy approval process.
   

2. LI Woman Charged With DWI With Child After Crashing Onto Tennis Court: PD (patch.com) — A Ronkonkoma woman is charged with aggravated DWI and child endangerment after police say she dropped her 10-year-old daughter at Islip Town Beach, then crashed through a fence and onto nearby tennis courts Tuesday afternoon. No one was on the courts, and she was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries; she's due in First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
   

3. A glimpse of ocean light with an art festival (trihamletnews.com) — Islip residents can dive into an ocean-themed evening when the Islip Arts Council hosts its free Under the Sea Light & Art Festival on Oct. 10 at the South Shore Mall gallery. Expect interactive light displays, digital art, live music, a night market, and a playful underwater parade encouraging guests to dress in sea-inspired costumes.
   

4. High school roundup: Girls volleyball, boys and girls soccer, field hockey and boys badminton (newsday.com) — Islip-area sports fans can celebrate busy midweek action, with West Islip's girls soccer team staying perfect at 9-0 and the boys soccer squad falling 3–1 to Shoreham-Wading River. In girls volleyball, West Islip pushed Hauppauge to five sets, while other Suffolk and Nassau teams posted standout performances across soccer, field hockey, and boys badminton.
   

5. Suffolk Police Officer's Family, Organ Recipient To Reunite At 5K (patch.com) — Residents in and around Islip can join donor families, transplant recipients, and advocates this Saturday at Heckscher State Park in East Islip for LiveOnNY's Suffolk County 5K For Life. The 9 a.m. run/walk honors organ donors, reunites a fallen Suffolk officer's family with an organ recipient, and raises funds to support organ donation and transplantation programs.
