Water Main Break Closes Lane On Merrick Road In Amityville
Crews are working at the scene as water service disruptions and traffic delays continue, officials say.
AMITYVILLE, NY — A water main break on Merrick Road is causing traffic disruptions and water service outages in Amityville, according to village and water authority officials.
The Suffolk County Water Authority confirmed the break occurred near 179 Merrick Road. Officials said a section of water service in the area has been temporarily shut off to allow crews to complete repairs safely. There is currently no estimated completion time, but a repair crew is actively working at the site.
Amityville Village officials confirmed on social media that one lane of Merrick Road is closed for several hours, with flaggers regulating traffic beginning at approximately 10 a.m.

According to SCWA’s real-time main breaks map, the incident is listed as affecting 4 homes and 6 businesses in the surrounding area. Multiple points along Merrick Road near Broadway and Bennett Place are associated with the ongoing repair work.
Officials said two-way traffic will resume once repairs are completed. Additional updates will be shared as they become available.
