Student-athletes, coaches come together for Section VIII Unity Summit (news12.com) — Student-athletes and coaches from the Bellmore-Merrick School District and across Nassau County gathered at Brookside School for the Section VIII Unity Summit, focusing on civility in sports. Workshops on leadership, mental health and sportsmanship, plus a keynote address, encouraged Merrick-area teens to compete hard while still treating opponents with respect on and off the field.

NICE Bus launches Mini MILE pilot in central Nassau; alternative service impacting East Meadow (liherald.com) — A new NICE Bus Mini MILE pilot will soon connect North Merrick, East Meadow, North Bellmore and Bellmore with on-demand, fixed-schedule shuttles linking schools, shops and major transit hubs. Weekday rides run 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., are free through Oct. 31, and then cost $3, offering Merrick-area residents a lower-cost alternative to private ride services.
   

4. Wantagh, Seaford and Levittown women honored by Steve Rhoads (liherald.com) — A Merrick resident, Allison Sussman, was among 14 women honored at State Sen. Steve Rhoads' Women of Distinction ceremony recognizing community leaders across his district. The event at Plainview-Old Bethpage Library highlighted professional achievements, volunteerism and service, with speakers and performances underscoring how local women inspire younger generations to lead and give back.
