Snow, Ice In Forecast For Hudson Valley: NWS

Meteorologists are also tracking another round of potential stormy weather for the weekend.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Winter weather advisories are in effect for the Hudson Valley starting later today, with snow and ice in the forecast.

For much of the region, the precipitation window is between 6 p.m. tonight and 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.

In southeast New York, including Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester counties, mixed precipitation is expected during this timeframe, with total snow accumulation of up to one inch, and a light glaze of ice, according to the National Weather Service.

For Greene, Columbia, Ulster, and Dutchess counties, the winter weather advisory is from 3 p.m. today through 6 a.m. Wednesday.

These areas can expect total snow accumulation of a coating to two inches, with a glaze of ice, according to the National Weather Service.

The precipitation will start as snow this afternoon, then change over to a wintry mix and freezing rain. Freezing drizzle will linger into the pre-dawn hours on Wednesday, the National Weather Service reports.

Slippery road conditions are expected for the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes, according to the National Weather Service.

Looking ahead

The remainder of Wednesday through early Sunday are expected to be dry, with daytime highs reaching into the mid to upper 30s.

Forecasters are monitoring the next potential round of stormy weather on Sunday and into Presidents’ Day. As of Tuesday, the National Weather Service is predicting a 50 to 60 percent chance of precipitation, including snow and rain, during that timeframe.

Tonight: Snow, freezing rain, and sleet likely before midnight, then a slight chance of freezing rain between midnight and 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 36. Light west wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19. Northwest wind around 7 mph.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 35. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 9.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 34.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17.

Wind chill values between 25 and 30. Light and variable wind becoming west around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 38. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. West wind 8 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 24. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. West wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
