📰 News we're reading

• NYC Restaurants Ordered Closed October 2 - 9 (patch.com) — Health inspectors recently shut down several New York City restaurants in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx after finding serious sanitation and pest problems. New Yorkers can see which neighborhood spots were closed, the violation points they received, and the specific health hazards cited, from vermin to improper food temperature controls.

• ICE Agent Fired 7 Rounds, Shoots Man In Neck In NYC (patch.com) — New Yorkers are grappling with questions about safety and accountability after an ICE officer fired seven shots, hitting 28-year-old Oscar Belgal in the neck during an arrest in the Bronx while his 5-year-old son sat in the SUV. Mayor Zohran Mamdani sharply condemned the shooting, while a top ICE official defended the agents' actions, and NYPD released body-camera footage as the investigation continues.

• NYC Bus Camera Enforcement Expands To 3 More Routes (patch.com) — New Yorkers who drive along the B1, B6, and Q65 routes will soon face automated bus-mounted cameras ticketing cars that block bus lanes, stops, or double-park. After a 60-day warning period, escalating fines will support MTA operations and are part of a broader push to speed up buses and improve accessibility across the city's extensive network.
