• Squeaky Has Waited Nearly A Year For Home: Northport Kitty Of The Week (patch.com) — A Northport-based rescue is urgently hoping a local family will adopt Squeaky, a playful, affectionate cat with chronic kidney disease who's been thriving on a special diet in foster care for nearly a year. Volunteers say she's a lap-loving "auntie" cat who adores people and other felines, and they're looking for someone willing to manage her prescription food and give her a forever home.
   

• West Nile Virus Cases In Mosquitoes Climb Across Suffolk (patch.com) — Northport is among several Suffolk communities where mosquitoes have tested positive for West Nile virus this season, prompting county health officials to urge extra caution. Residents are advised to protect against mosquito bites, watch for symptoms, and report dead birds or mosquito problems to Suffolk County health and public works officials for follow-up.
