State, county leaders push to widen Sunrise Hwy between Patchogue to Moriches (greaterlongisland.com) — A major push is underway to widen Sunrise Highway from East Patchogue to Center Moriches, eliminating the dangerous two-lane bottleneck that snarls Patchogue-area commutes and slows ambulances to NYU Langone Hospital. State and county leaders, first responders, and labor groups are urging New York to fund a third lane in both directions between Exits 53 and 59, though no money or timeline is set yet.
