• Jewish community reflects on Oct. 7 anniversary with remembrance, grief, and hope (news12.com) — Plainview's Manes Jewish Community Center is marking the Oct. 7 anniversary tonight with a large commemorative gathering featuring former hostage Or Levy and more than 600 attendees. Organizers emphasize remembrance, resilience, and hope, and plan a permanent memorial at the center to honor the roughly 1,200 people killed, creating a lasting space in Plainview for reflection and education. 
• Deepwells Mansion to host Halloween horror film festival (newsday.com) — Part of the new horror film "Mittens" was shot in Plainview, and you can catch its premiere at the Deepwells Mansion Macabre Film Festival in St. James on Halloween night. The festival will showcase over 25 independent horror films, feature a costume contest with local gift card prizes, and offer a VIP haunted mansion experience in a heated outdoor tent.
