Tornado Confirmed To Have Hit Queens During Severe Storm: What To Know (patch.com) — Queens residents experienced a rare weather scare as the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado came ashore in the Eastern Rockaways after forming as a waterspout. Another tornado hit Atlantic Beach on Long Island around the same time, causing property damage but no reported injuries, giving local communities a jarring reminder of severe weather risks.

Skeletal Remains Found in Debris of July's Deadly Queens, NY, House Fire (firehouse.com) — Investigators have found human skeletal remains in the debris of a Queens home where a July 25 fire killed a 78-year-old woman and injured more than 20 people. The Medical Examiner is working to identify the victim as FDNY and NYPD review missing-person reports and revisit what happened at the multi-alarm blaze near College Point Boulevard.
   

3. New York City Council Deputy Speaker Williams Convenes City Leadership For Downtown Jamaica Interagency Walkthrough (blackstarnews.com) — City and state leaders just walked through Downtown Jamaica to tackle sanitation, safety, and quality-of-life issues around key transit hubs and commercial blocks. With thousands of new housing units planned, officials say they're pushing for cleaner streets, better enforcement, and stronger coordination so Southeast Queens residents and businesses see lasting improvements, not just short-term fixes.
   

4. Queens apartments among smallest in country, despite immense size growth over last decade: Report (qns.com) — If your Queens apartment feels tight, you're not imagining it: new units here average just 732 square feet, among the smallest in a 100-city national study. Queens did see one of the biggest size increases since 2016, but still trails far behind the national average and even slightly behind Manhattan's new apartments.
