Postal Insecurity Update
This is an update to the U.S. Postal Service internal mail fraud that has been taking place in Queens. We were experiencing check washing.
As I raised the issue of our community being victims of check washing and the source was from the mailboxes throughout our neighborhood AND centrally, the Bay Terrace Post office where mail deposited into the mailbox inside was taken, opened up and checks removed with check washing taking place. I notified the Postal Inspectors on numerous occasions. I asked Congressman Souzzi to notify the FBI and begin an investigation but that didn't happen.
The banks have been complacent with just reimbursing the clients for who knows how much $$$$. I heard from a banker in Bay Terrace that the Postal Inspectors identified the source from within the Post Office and unknown actions. Keep watch of your bank statements and look for checks being made out to someone you don't know and the amount changed.
