Propel NY Energy Hosts ‘Community Office Hours’ Series Across Queens and The Bronx

Propel NY Energy hosted drop-in Community Office Hours across Queens and the Bronx, connecting residents directly with project staff.

As part of its ongoing commitment to engaging communities early, often, and inclusively, Propel NY recently hosted a series of Community Office Hours across Queens and The Bronx. These informal, drop‑in events gave residents and local businesses an opportunity to meet one‑on‑one with members of the project team, learn more about the proposed transmission project, ask questions, and share feedback.

Designed to be accessible and flexible, the Community Office Hours are one of several outreach tools Propel NY is using to connect directly with communities along the project corridor. By bringing conversations into neighborhood settings, the project team aims to meet people where they are and ensure local voices help inform the project as it advances.

Propel NY Energy is a collaboration between the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and New York Transco. The 90‑mile underground and submarine electric transmission project is proposed to strengthen the reliability, resiliency, and capacity of New York’s electric grid, with system improvements planned across parts of New York City—including Queens and the Bronx—as well as Westchester County.

Throughout the past month, representatives from Propel NY’s engineering, construction management, community engagement, and environmental teams participated in Community Office Hours at locations along the proposed route. These conversations allowed community members to speak directly with project staff and learn more about what to expect as planning continues.

New York City Office Hour Locations included:

“Transparency and collaboration are at the heart of the Propel NY Energy project,” said Susan Craig, Director of Communications for the New York Power Authority. “Taking the time to listen and have open conversations with communities along the route is a critical part of our approach and helps inform our efforts as we move toward construction.”

For more than two years, Propel NY Energy has focused on proactive outreach to ensure communities have access to timely information and opportunities to provide input. With construction anticipated to begin in 2026, the project team continues to share updates and respond to questions about the process and timeline.

The Community Office Hours series complements Propel NY’s broader engagement program, which has included quarterly webinars, in‑person community information sessions, and open houses.

“We’re grateful to the New York City residents and business owners who took the time to connect with us,” said Shannon Baxevanis, Director of Public Affairs for New York Transco. “These conversations help us better understand local priorities and play an important role in shaping how we construct the project.”
