Hospital leaders say the four-year designation validates the quality of care Riverhead residents receive close to home and will help PBMC keep raising standards as it expands services on the East End.

• Central Islip man sentenced for sexual assault of inmate at Riverhead Correctional Facility (riverheadlocal.com) — A former Suffolk County correction officer has been sentenced to 18 months in jail and must register as a sex offender for sexually assaulting an inmate at the Riverhead Correctional Facility. Prosecutors say he abused a camera blind spot in the jail between June and August 2023, and the district attorney vowed continued aggressive prosecution of such abuses of power.

• Riverhead football eager for a turnaround season (timesreview.com) — Riverhead High School's varsity football team is gearing up for a fresh start, with 50 players signed up and a new offensive approach built around standout running back Kavion Hobbs. Coach Don Nelson says the focus is on winning games, rebuilding community support, and showcasing young talent as they scrimmage Harborfields Saturday before opening at Sachem East on Sept. 9.
