Nor'Easter Delivers Thrashing In Mastic Beach

MASTIC BEACH, NY — The nor'easter pounded the low-lying coastal areas of Mastic Beach on Saturday morning, leaving roadways unpassable and many without power, Fire District Commissioner Bill Biondi told Patch.

Water was over the bulkhead down at Marina One where the fire department keeps its rescue boat.

He said that as of 9 a.m., most of the streets are flooded with residents unable to drive down them, and some people have no power. He hoped to head out and assess the area later in the morning near high tide at 10:30 a.m. when the water will be higher.

"There is a lot of flooding along the waterfront, but not as bad as Sandy was," he said.

Mastic Beach was devastated during Superstorm Sandy in 2012, when a massive storm surge flooded inland, and many homes were underwater.
