Shed Fire Draws Area Firefighters To Shirley Home Sunday Night: Police

It started at around 7:15 p.m., close to the rescue at Wertheim National Wildlife refuge, making for a busy night for first responders.

SHIRLEY, NY — A fire broke out inside a shed at a Shirley home on Sunday night, drawing area firefighters, Suffolk police said.

First responders were alerted to the Corbin Avenue fire at around 7:15 p.m. by a 911 caller, according to police. When officers arrived, the Brookhaven Fire Department was on scene and extinguished the fire, police said.

No further details were immediately available.

It was not the only emergency that fire responders were called to on Sunday night in Shirley.

At around 7:30 p.m., a teen became stuck in mud inside Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge. He was was rescued as part of a massive operation between the police, including its K-9 and aviation units, as well as local fire department.
