Man Arrested In Hampton Bays After Fleeing From Officers During An Attempted Traffic Stop: Police
He was driving at a high rate of speed and passing other vehicles on Montauk Highway, police say.
HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A Hampton Bays man, 28, was arrested Friday after speeding on Montauk Highway and trying to flee after officers attempted a traffic stop, police said.
According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place about 3:47 p.m. when officers attempted to stop a motor vehicle for a traffic violation in Hampton Bays.
With the police vehicle's emergency lights and sirens activated, the driver of the motor vehicle was failing to comply by accelerating and illegally passing vehicles at a high rate of speed, authorities said.

The driver eventually pulled into a residential driveway in Hampton Bays, exited his vehicle and ran inside the residence, police said.
After a short time, he exited the residence and was taken into police custody, police said. Upon further investigation, he was found to have operated his motor vehicle with a suspended license and have an active bench warrant from Southampton Town Justice Court, police said.

He was arrested and transported to Southampton Town police headquarters for processing, where he was held for morning arraignment, police said. He was charged with third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and held on the bench warrant, police said.
