Join us this Wednesday or Thursday for an unforgettable Evening of Dance in Downtown White Plains:
Choreographed by Ballet des Amériques founder and artistic director Carole Alexis, the program will feature a compelling mix of new works alongside audience favorites from the company’s diverse repertoire. Known for her distinctive choreographic voice that blends classical technique with contemporary sensibility, Alexis continues to create works that are both visually striking and emotionally resonant.
Set within the historic and beautifully designed ArtsWestchester Gallery, the performances foster a uniquely close connection between dancers and audience members. The gallery’s architectural character and vibrant downtown location enhance the immersive atmosphere, making these evenings a cultural highlight of Westchester’s spring season.
Since 2015, the annual Evenings of Dance have delighted audiences across the county. Previous performances have been presented at various venues such as our former studio theater in Port Chester, the Emelin Theatre in Mamaroneck and the Tarrytown Music Hall. The move to ArtsWestchester’s Gallery in White Plains marked an exciting new chapter in the series’ evolution, continuing its tradition of bringing exceptional dance to distinctive local venues.

In uncertain times, the arts are not a luxury; they are essential. Dance gathers us, awakens joy, restores our sense of meaning, and challenges us to reflect. By weaving together the intricate textures of World-string traditions with the improvisational spirit of Chamber-jazz, the ensemble creates a cinematic and deeply emotional soundscape. Featuring a unique instrumentation of violin, guitar, upright bass, percussion, and wordless vocals, the project celebrates the organic interplay between five distinct musical voices

The Quintin Harris Trio (led by NY-based vocalist and pianist, Quintin Harris) is excited to be returning to Jazz On Main. With new takes on old standards, and debuting new originals, the trio finds excitement in bringing new discoveries to you. As they met in their undergraduate jazz program as attendants of William Paterson University of New Jersey, they found a deeper understanding of this music under the tutelage of their mentor, Bill Charlap. In addition to his longtime mentor Mr. Charlap, Quintin formed connections with his private teachers, Geoffrey Keezer, Ben Paterson, and Aaron Diehl. Bassist Sam AuBuchon’s teachers include David Wong, Mike LeDonne, Dayna Stephens, and Maestro Ron Carter. Drummer Marlen Suero-Amparo looks up to her teachers, Kenny Washington and Mike LeDonne. The Trio has regular performances at venues such as Chelsea Table and Stage, Green Room 42, and are frequent guests in Susie Mosher’s The Line Up at the historical Birdland Jazz Club’s downstairs room. Quintin also co-created an original duo show Mr. Harris &amp; Mr. Edwards, which was nominated for “Best Debut Show” in the 2021 Broadway World Cabaret Award, and he was a finalist in the 2022 American Jazz Pianists Competition in Savannah, Georgia. Stay up to date with The QH Trio as 2024 will include new and exciting endeavors, such as tours across the country and the release of Quintin’s first professional vocal album. La Pompe Attack- The Music and Legacy of Django Reinhardt
Lead by two time Grammy nominated guitarist Doug Munro, La Pompe Attack presents an exciting, updated interpretation of the hot swing sound of Django Reinhardt, coupled with Doug’s own unique and highly entertaining style of playing and singing. This special show is dedicated to the Maestro of the Gypsy Swing genre, Django Reinhardt. La Pompe Attack will play classic compositions by Django Reinhardt as well as Gypsy Swing version of Pop songs and jazz standards. Doug Munro is a multiple Grammy nominated New York-based jazz guitarist. Since 1986 he has released 20 albums as a leader and has appeared on over 100 recordings as a sideman, producer, and arranger, working with artists like Dr. John, Michael Brecker, and Dr. Lonnie Smith. He has over 75 published compositions and over 300 recorded arrangements to his credit.
In the recording field, Doug has received two Grammy nominations and two NAIRD awards.
His 2011 release, A Very Gypsy Christmas was a top 5 pick by the Wall Street Journal. Amazon.com picked Boogaloo to Beck, which he arranged, co-produced, and on which he played, as a Top Ten Jazz CD of 2003. Doug also did orchestration on the Oscar-winning documentary film When We Were Kings. His last CD released in 2017, The Harry Warren Songbook, received rave reviews and still enjoys strong airplay. His 2022 release “Putt Lake Toodleloo” was in the top 10 on the RMR Jazz Chart for 7 months and received a write up in Downbeat Magazine. His latest release “Loop-Mania! 2024” is slated for a spring 2024 release.
Doug has written four books on jazz improvisation for Warner Brothers Publications and Alfred Music Publications, including one entitled, From Swing to Bebop, which won the Music and Sound Retailers instructional book of the year award in 2000. His last print only book, The Total Latin Guitarist (Alfred Publishing) was released in 2010.
Doug now writes exclusively for online publications and instructional websites. He contributes guitar instruction articles for Premier Guitar magazine and is a teaching/artist contributor for TrueFire.com where he has three online instructional courses and his own dedicated subscriber channel called Doug Munro’s Guitar Garage.
Munro created and directed the Jazz Studies Program at The Conservatory of Music at Purchase College in 1993 and is now Professor Emeritus (retired). He has been a teaching artist at the Litchfield Jazz Camp since 2009 and is an artist/instructor for Frank Vignola’s Big Jersey Guitar Camp.
