• Multiple Agencies Respond To Watauga County Explosion & Fire (whky.com) — Boone-area fire crews were among several agencies called to a late-night explosion and large fire on Burl Brown Road in the Vilas community early Wednesday, April 15. The blaze was brought under control, and county fire and sheriff’s investigators are now conducting a joint investigation into what happened. No further details about damage or injuries were released.

• ETSU announces Roan Class of 2030 (elizabethton.com) — A Watauga High School senior from Boone has been named to East Tennessee State University’s prestigious Roan Scholars Leadership Program, earning a full four-year scholarship and intensive leadership development. The program’s new Class of 2030 includes 12 standout students from Tennessee and neighboring states, all recognized for academic excellence, service, and leadership.
