Fayetteville PWC lands major funding for PFAS drinking water project (fayobserver.com) — Fayetteville's Public Works Commission has secured approval for $62.5 million in low-interest state loans, plus future revenue bonds, to build granular activated carbon treatment that will remove PFAS from the city's drinking water. Construction at the P.O. Hoffer and Glenville Lake plants is part of a $133 million project expected to be operating by 2029, aiming to limit health risks from "forever chemicals."
   

2. New Fayetteville assistant chief named in 7 civil-rights suits (fayobserver.com) — Fayetteville's newly hired assistant police chief, a former Chicago commander, has previously been named in seven federal civil-rights lawsuits that ended in settlements without findings of liability or admissions of wrongdoing. City and police officials have not yet answered questions about the litigation history, even as they highlight his long experience and role on the department's executive staff.
   

3. Fayetteville man charged in school bus exposure case (wxii12.com) — Fayetteville police have charged a 74-year-old man with multiple counts of indecent exposure and indecent liberties after he allegedly followed a Cumberland County school bus and exposed himself to children. Investigators used cellphone video and public safety cameras to identify the suspect, who remains jailed on a secured bond as detectives continue seeking additional information from the community.
   

4. Fayetteville PD issues warning after 4 fentanyl deaths in three days; resources that can help (abc11.com) — Fayetteville officials are warning residents after four suspected fentanyl deaths in three days pushed this year's fatal overdoses to match all of 2025. Police, fire, and treatment providers explain Narcan use and offer help through Renew Counseling, peer support specialists, SMART Recovery groups, free naloxone distribution, and the Cumberland-Fayetteville Opioid Response Team for anyone ready to seek treatment or support.
