1. Cumberland County Schools launches investigation after bus mechanic raises safety concerns (cbs17.com) — Cumberland County Schools in Fayetteville has ordered an independent investigation into its Transportation Department after a local bus mechanic warned the school board that staffing shortages and heavy workloads could jeopardize bus safety. With five mechanic vacancies and hundreds of buses to maintain, the district says student safety remains its top priority and has hired a Raleigh law firm to review practices and recommend improvements.
   

2. Can Stryker still be saved? Fort Bragg supporters push to stop closure (fayobserver.com) — Fort Bragg's Stryker Golf Course, long used by soldiers and Fayetteville families, is slated to close Sept. 30 because of financial and infrastructure concerns, but local supporters are fighting to save it. A Fayetteville resident has launched a petition, arguing the course is historically important, open to civilians, and one of too many recreational options disappearing from the installation.
   

3. RiverDogs in a must-win situation Tuesday night (counton2.com) — Fayetteville baseball fans can watch the Woodpeckers host a must-win playoff game for the Charleston RiverDogs at Segra Stadium on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. as Fayetteville's team looks to clinch the Carolina League Championship series after a dominant 14–4 win in Game One.
   

4. Knott, Hudson Bill to Advance a New Veterans' Home in Harnett County Passes the House (house.gov) — Fayetteville-area veterans affected by the 2024 closure of the Fayetteville State Veterans Home may soon have a closer option for long-term care, as the U.S. House passed a bill to transfer land for a new state veterans' home in Harnett County. The proposed facility would sit about 15 miles from the original Fayetteville site, near Fort Bragg, restoring specialized care access for local veterans and families.
   

5. Bladen County to receive $26.6 million in PFAS settlement (bladenjournal.com) — Residents in the Fayetteville region should know that Bladen County will receive $26.6 million from DuPont and Chemours to upgrade water infrastructure after decades of PFAS contamination from the nearby Fayetteville Works plant. The broader $590 million settlement, which leaves existing cleanup orders in place, aims to secure cleaner drinking water for communities along the Cape Fear River, including those downstream of Fayetteville.
