National Night Out strives to build community-police relationships in Greenville (reflector.com) — Greenville residents are invited downtown Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. to National Night Out at Five Points Plaza, where you can meet local officers, enjoy food trucks, and explore kid-friendly activities. Police Chief K.Z. Thomas says moving the event to October has boosted turnout, and this year will feature demonstrations, games, and more than two dozen community and retail vendors.

Youth curfew, downtown safety, sidewalk installation on Greenville council agenda (reflector.com) — Greenville's City Council will weigh final approval of a downtown youth curfew, new East 10th Street sidewalks, and a grant to repair Lake Ellsworth's dam in meetings starting Monday. Council members will also discuss downtown safety after a recent shooting, set values for new affordable homes, and consider annexing nearly 196 acres along Stantonsburg Road for future housing.

ECVC custodian finds niche at courthouse, named Employee of the Year (reflector.com) — A 24-year-old Greenville resident, James Stewart, has been honored as Eastern Carolina Vocational Center's 2026 Employee Success Story of the Year for his custodial work at the Pitt County Courthouse. After completing a custodial apprenticeship through Pitt Community College and ECVC, Stewart, who has autism, built a full-time career and strong relationships with courthouse staff who praise his reliability, kindness, and dedication.

Two deputies hit in Lenoir County shootout near Pink Hill; suspect dead, officials say (counton2.com) — Two Lenoir County deputies wounded in a shootout near Pink Hill are being treated at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville and are in stable condition, officials say. The suspect, identified as a Deep Run man, was found dead inside the home, and the SBI plus Greenville Police crisis negotiators are investigating the officer-involved shooting while deputies remain on administrative leave.

- ATTENTION I just want to let everyone know, including seniors that somebody is calling saying that they are from Pitt County sheriffs office and that they have warrants for your arrest because you did not show up at jury duty for a federal case.
This is a scam. Do not give out any information. Just hang up . I spoke with Pitt County sheriffs office and they were the ones that informed me that… (Nextdoor Eastwood) - Did anyone see and smell the smoke this morning around 5 am?
It was definitely a wood fire but I can't find anything on it (Nextdoor Club Pines / Westhaven)
