• U.S. Navy deal lands 400 jobs at Kinston's NC Global TransPark (businessnc.com) — More than 400 new jobs are coming to Kinston as the U.S. Navy finalizes a 10-year agreement to expand operations at the NC Global TransPark, using 65 acres of hangar space. Construction on additional facilities continues into next summer, and the first aircraft are expected this fall, promising higher-than-average wages and a major boost to Lenoir County’s economy.

• Teens Lead Internship at the La Grange Public Library — Neuse News (neusenews.com) — A La Grange teen intern has been helping with programs from the local library to Kinston’s Grainger Stadium while creating a game-themed dessert night for area teens. Students in Lenoir, Jones, and Greene counties can apply this April for the next Teens Lead cohort, with details available through the Kinston Public Library’s Youth Services Department.

• Vinston Thorpe Earns First Head Coaching Opportunity, Tasked With Rebuilding East Columbus (on3.com subscription) — Kinston football fans will recognize assistant coach Vinston Thorpe, who is leaving the Vikings after their recent state-title-game run to take his first head coaching job at East Columbus. Thorpe credits his time under Kinston head coach Ryan Gieselman for teaching him how to compete deep into December, and plans to bring a similar adaptive, high-scoring style to rebuild the struggling East Columbus program.
